Whether you’re heading to the Home & Garden Show, catching a tribute concert or cheering on the peashooting champs, here’s your weekly roundup of what’s happening locally.

🎟️ Events This Week

• 🏡 Home & Garden Show – Ely Cathedral

  Explore floral displays, garden goods, artisan food and more inside Ely’s stunning Cathedral. Opening night is Thursday 10 July, 6:30pm – 9pm, followed by two full days on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July, 9:30am – 4:30pm. Tickets required.

• 🎵 Ely Folk Festival – Stuntney Estate 

  Three days of folk music and family fun near Ely, with live bands, Morris dancing, workshops, ceilidhs and on-site camping. Friday 11 – Sunday 13 July (festival site opens Friday 1pm; music from Friday evening). Day tickets and weekend passes available.

• 🎸 The Queen Laser Spectacular Show – The Maltings 

  Experience the magic of Queen with this 5-piece live tribute, complete with powerhouse vocals, iconic moves and a full laser show. The concert takes place on Friday 11 July at 7:30pm. Tickets £30.25, booking recommended.

• 🫛 World Peashooting Championship – Witcham Village Green 

  Contestants from around the world compete to be pea-shooting champion in this quirky annual village competition. Try your hand at blowing dried peas at a target, enjoy food, craft stalls and family fun. Saturday 12 July, 11:30am – 4:30pm. Free for spectators (small fee to enter the competition).

• 🎶 Teatime Summer Music Concert – Witchford Village College
  Students from Witchford VC present an afternoon of music with choir, band and solo performances. The concert takes place on Thursday 10 July at 5pm. Free entry.

• 🎤 Shout Out To The 60s – The Maltings

  Toe-tapping tribute show celebrating icons like Dusty Springfield, Tina Turner and The Supremes with over 30 hits. Performed by former West End star Sandy Smith. Thursday 10 July at 7:30pm. Tickets £18.97.

• 👩‍🍳 Official Ely Showroom Launch – Nicholas Hythe Kitchens 

  Celebrate the new Nicholas Hythe showroom with live cooking demos on Saturday 12 July from 10:30am. Enjoy live cooking demos, recipe ideas, free goodie bags for the first 25 guests and an hourly prize draw. Free entry, no booking needed.

• 🎹 Organ Recital: Paul Goussot – Ely Cathedral 

  French organist Paul Goussot performs a stunning programme of Baroque and Romantic works by Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn and Vierne. The recital begins on Sunday 13 July at 5:15pm. Free entry, no booking required.

😊 Good News in 60 Seconds

• 🎉 Ely Aquafest Success
  Ely's largest waterside festival returned last Sunday (July 6) with huge success! Organised by the Rotary Club of Ely, the event at Jubilee Gardens and Lavender Green featured river events, raft races, water safety demonstrations, and family fun. The free festival, which began in 1978, continues to bring the community together for a brilliant day out.

• 🏅 Armed Forces Day Triumph
  Ely's Armed Forces Day 2025 has been hailed as a resounding success, bringing hundreds of residents and visitors together to honour Britain's service personnel. The community event showcased local pride and support for our armed forces with displays, activities, and heartfelt tributes.

• 🏫 £5M Sixth Form Centre Opens

  Ely College’s Bishop Laney Sixth Form has officially unveiled its brand-new, state-of-the-art sixth form centre in the transformed Needham Tower Block. Backed by a £5 million investment, the modern facility adds much-needed post-16 study spaces and will welcome students later this term
